Thank You!
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who supported and helped out at our Scouts Xmas Market and Carols sing a long yesterday evening. A great night was had with a very festive feel and some much needed fundraising was done! (Peak is looking a bit cheaper now!) We'll plan for some more fundraising activities in early 2010 - any fresh ideas gratefully recieved.
Well done scouts for all your hard efforts to make this evening a success.

REMEMBER _ final 'party patrol leaders' evening next week and then we meet the following week on Monday 21st December for the christmas panto at the Pomegranate theatre. Please meet at 6.40pm outside the main entrance (those who have already paid for a ticket - its pre-paid tickets only).

IT'S CHRISTMAS!
(well nearly) and Tuesday 8th December is our Christmas fare and sing a long! Come and bag a bargain, loads of stalls with gifts for sale - bird boxes, wind chimes, cards, decorations, tags, glass wear, tombola, books, jewellery , refreshments & more! The scouts have been very very busy getting very creative and have put in a huge amount of effort making items and collecting raffle prizes and unwanted items to sell- please come along and support them in this their fund raising mission. We will be having a few festive carols too to set everyone off in a jolly christmas mood, so bring your earplugs ha ha ha - We look forward to seeing you - everyone welcome, you don't have to be a member of the group, bring your friends, neighbours and relatives - Its suitable for all!

ALSO remember to sign and bring along your flyer as it will be entered into our prize draw and both you and the scout who gave you the flyer will be in with a chance of getting a prze!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Marg, Claire, Sarah, Pete and Tony who all spared their time and knowledge in helping with the scouts creative efforts- it was very much appreciated.

PATROL LEADERS GO MAD!
The following Tuesday (15th December) is our last troop meeting of the year and has been planned by the Patrol Leaders - Martin, Harvey, Ella & Hayley. They have requested that you attend in non-uniform with very silly hair!!! Also bring some goodies to eat as we will be having a festive fuddle along with their fun and games.

REMEMBER - IT'S BEHIND YOU!
We are off to the Panto at the Pomegranate Theatre soon too (full details will be given at our last meeting) so you lucky scouts who bought a ticket will be finishing off your 2009 scouting in true 1st Whittington style - being very silly, loud and having fun!

Here's hoping you all have a great christmas and very happy new year (phew! us leaders can have a bit of a rest now!) We'll see you in the new year - Our first meeting is Tuesday 5th January

PRE-XMAS CLEAR OUT!
Get hunting through your cupboards and drawers for any of your unwanted items that can be donated for the Christmas Fayre - anything in good condition would be most appreciated! DVD's, CD's, books, games, jewellery, toiletries, bits & bobs, christmas decorations and anything else you can think of!!!!!

We also need more plain christmas baubles, glasses and tea light/candle holders (glass) to decorate.

If any of you scouts make items as a hobby eg. jewellery, cards, keyrings etc. and have some items going spare please bring them along too.

Happy hunting - If we all pull together we can make this a good fund raiser.

REMEMBER REMEMBER

Our thanks go out to Sergeant Gordon who attended this evening and gave us an insight into the importance and necessity of Remembrance Sunday, I hope it made you all think of how fortunate we are. Remember to ask you relatives of their experiences of war times past to get a first hand frank account of previous difficult times, as Gordon said many of you will have someone in your family with experiences of war times. My own grand father was an chauffer in the 2nd world war and my uncle has an amazing photograph album of his adventures and journeys - maybe you will uncover something new yourself ????

Full uniform for Sunday at church please - this is our opportunity to show the community who we are and keep the promise we made upon investiature and of course our moment to spare a thought for all those who lost their lives to give us the freedom we have today.

On Yer Bike!
17 of us set off into Sherwood Forest Pines on Saturday afternoon and made it through the woodland trails successfully. We all got rather damp and muddy along the way but we had a great time! The weather was kind as the rain eased - the sun even showed its face for a while which helped us to appreciate the beauty of Autumn all around us. I would recommend this place to anyone (and YES I had lots of scouts asking "can we go to 'Go Ape'"?)-maybe something for the summer programme eh?????
My huge thanks go out to Dave and Pete who came along for the ride and Mark for finding such a great place to go - and of course to the parents who brought the scouts and managed to squash their bikes into the boots of their cars!!!
All scouts who attended have now completed the cyclist activity badge - well done! and to eveyone else who helped make this event a success "thank you" your efforts are appreciated!

Pathways - Whittington Moor, has asked me to pass on their huge thanks for the donations you made for the homeless shelter. I took them down today and they were most pleased. Thank you to everyone who sent something in and spared a moment for someone else.
Tea and biccies with the Mayor!

I hope you all enjoyed our evening in the Mayor's company and his tour of the chambers. It was a busy night starting with a warm welcome, a tour of the mayor's and lady mayoress' chambers then a visit to the council chambers where all the meetings take place, many photo opportunities and viewing of historical items, an investiature and the presentation to the Mayor making him an honourary member of 1st Whittington Scout Group PLUS what with Big Dan taking centre stage in the council meeting room, Jack dropping the cannon ball (thank goodness nothing broke!!!), Chris looking gorgeous in the mayor's tri-corn hat and the majority of you trying on the mayoral chains a good night was had by all! It was most interesting and will help you towards gaining the community challenge badge.

I would like to say thank you Scouts for your excellent turn out. You looked really smart and behaved brilliantly well done! Also our sincere thanks go to the Mayor and his staff for sparing their time for our visit.
